John is wearing an animal skin, vivid blue is predominant color, rocky landscape is to the left and a valley with a winding river in the background is to the right.

Painting:Recently conserved-stabilzed by Freeda Durett, repair at top curve, no visible losses, all stabile Frame: worm holes throughout, no acitivity, gilding has been consolidated with light cleaning, rope banding has area of loss on upper edge, no gilding at 11"-12" from upper left corner, cracks on frame and area where spandrels have been repaird on both sides. Some space at mitres. Back: lined with wax various holes on back of frame from different hanging situations, one in middle, two holes on each side in middle, one on either corner, pieces of cork used as spacers(7) Upper left corner section is loose and fairly new
