43 Charlotte Street (William A. Hussey House)Entry/Object ID
CHARLOTTE.043.01Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1849; restored 1990s. Similar in scale to its eastern neighbor, 33 Charlotte Street, William Hussey's Greek Revival style dwelling reflects Federal and Italianate influences as well. A double brownstone staircase with a wrought-iron balustrade rises from the street level to a Greek Revival door architrave set in a 2½-story central pavilion. Stucco quoins accent the pavilion as well as the corners of the dwelling. Black marble mantels with inset, gilded cast-iron decoration, cove plaster cornices, and exuberant plaster ceiling medallions add distinction to the interior of this late-antebellum, suburban villa. After being rented to various tenants and later acquired by the Colburn family, the property deteriorated in the early-20th century before a recent restoration
