11 Church Street is a wood frame Federal era Charleston single house, built before 1800, three stories atop a brick raised basement. Thomas Smith, governor of Carolina and one of the most prominent men in Charles Towne, was the earliest owner of the 11 Church Street site, lot number 147 of the Grand Modell. (Butler, 2015.) File contains historical research report (Butler, 2015); FOHG house history (1975); FOHG garden history (2001); deed research notes; Rosen and Associates structural/construction plan (2007); Hurricane Hugo damage assessment; SC Dept. of Archives and History architectural survey form; newspaper article (Mercury, 7/16/2009). Catalog record removed from Online Catalog until discrepancies between the inforomation in files for 11 and 13 Church Street can be sorted out. 3/24/2021: Butler report obtained; contains accurate ownership and social history.
