CHURCH.012.01Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1810; renovated ca. 1920s, 1950s, 1992. This traditional single house has a large extension to the north and east. Dr. Joseph Johnson, intendant (mayor) of Charleston and president of the Medical Society of South Carolina, lived here shortly after the building's construction and later lived at 35 Church Street. Even after numerous renovations, the house retains its original beaded cypress weatherboarding, several pairs of paneled shutters, and an early-19th century fanlighted piazza door screen.
File contains FOHG house histories (1995, 2006); other brief narrative history.Collection
