Further researchScope and Content
Constructed ca. 1769-75. The owner of Charleston's largest shipyard built this pre-Revolutionary Charleston single house. It retains its original weatherboarding as well as fine details such as paneled bases under its front windows, a compass-headed stair window on the north facade, and a unique egg and dart cornice mold below the roofline. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
