Constructed before 1778. Joseph Verree, who built this fine Georgian house, was a prosperous master carpenter of colonial Charles Town and an active Patriot and member of the Sons of Liberty during the American Revolution. He was married to Mary Ball, daughter of Joseph Ball. The site of 47 Church was part of a large lot of high ground which Verree purchased from his father-in-law in 1767. Verree built the present house and its kitchen before March of 1778.
