CHURCH.107.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1740. The wealthy planter and mariner Isaac Holmes, who lived a few doors to the south, built this 3-story stuccoed dwelling to replace a structure burned in the fire of 1740. The house, which retains its important early woodwork, was altered in the late-18th century with the addition of a wrought-iron balcony on the 2nd floor. It was probably after the subdivision of the property in the 1780s that John and Elizabeth Geyer built the small stucco house at 105 Church Street. Holmes also built another tenement at 2 St. Michael's Alley, a 2-story stucco dwelling with a Greek Revival piazza that was partially enclosed in the 1980s.
