3 Colonial Street (Calhoun Securities House)Entry/Object ID
COLONIAL.003.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1913. Nearly all the dwellings at 1-20 Colonial Street were completed within a few years; Calhoun Securities Company constructed most of the buildings as an investment, but a few individual owners built their own houses. Colonial Street constitutes one of the most diverse collections of early-20th century houses in the city; they show the wide mix of architectural styles used throughout the nation in this period. Built in the Queen Anne style, 3 Colonial Street was one of the first houses to be completed and occupied. (Poston: Buildings of Charleston.)
Files contain documentation of the easement on the property including related correspondence and Confirmation of Understanding; Part I certification (National Register); annual inspection reports.
Note that this is a relatively new easement; files will eventually contain additional information such as requests for alterations, and correspondence related to the management of the property; historical research information, etc.
See Easement Documentation Photo Files for easement donation photographs (Exh. B to Deed of Conservation Easement). (Note: photos are unsigned, undated but appear to be documentation photography.) No inspection photographs on file (see Easement Manager).Collection
