34 Coming Street (College of Charleston Sorority House)Entry/Object ID
COMING.034.1Scope and Content
Possibly built between 1771 and 1778, this house is one of five houses that became home in the 1970s to various sororities at the College of Charleston. This 2½-story frame single house, with a Victorianized roof, is smaller than its neighbor at 38 Coming Street and, like 38 Coming, may date to the Revolutionary period, but its Queen Anne closed gable and remodeled piazza entry belie an early date. Constructed by the vintner Thomas Harvey, the property originally contained a separate brick distillery building.
