Description

Two photographic postcards of the 1916 Flag Day "Fleet Parade": a: View looking south on King Street between South Market Street and Beaufain Street, from about 227 to 243 King. Police are marching north on the street. Flags are hung from buildings and stretched across the street. Crowds of onlookers line the street. The most identifiable buildings are 229 King (Jet White Laundry), 231 King, 233 King, 235 King (J.F. Norris Furniture), 237 King, 239 King (Royal Restaurant), 241 King, and 243 King (Siegling Music House). Sign for Louis Cohen & Co. (232 King) is visible at left. Captioned "Fleet Parade, Charleston, S.C." b: View looking north on King Street from just below Wentworth Street. Buildings are decorated with flags for the Flag Day Fleet Parade and the street is blocked off by a vehicle parked across it and two trolley cars. Sidewalks are busy with pedestrians. At left is 273 King with a sign above for a clothing company (J.L. David & Brothers?). Other buildings on the west side of King Street are obscured by decorations and lamp posts. At the right is 266 King (W.P. Cart Company), 268 King (McIntosh Seed House), 270 King (J.S. Pinkussohn), 276 King, and beyond.
