COMING.189.1Scope and Content
Established in 1762, the cemetery is an approximately one-acre site between Morris and Cannon Streets. A perimeter stuccoed brick wall, part of it original, is an important feature of the site. Contains some 600 marble and brownstone gravestones, most dating from the last half of the 18th century or first half of the 19th century. The first burial dates from 1762. Includes many box tombs, table-top tombs, obelisks, and columns, several of them fine examples of late-18th and 19th century gravestone art, and many signed by prominent local sculptors. Also known as Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Congregational Cemetery.
File contains National Register of Historic Places registration form; newspaper article; correspondence related to KKBE's application for a planning grant to fund preservation/conservation efforts (3 letters, 1995).
