85 Cumberland StreetEntry/Object ID
CUMBERLAND.085.1Scope and Content
One of several lots originally granted to Peter Burtell in 1694. Based on maps and other research, it is presumed that this house was built between 1745-1788. The property is associated with Ralph Izard, a significant figure in Charleston's early history. While little original historic fabric remains, there may still be some of the structure encased in the present apartment building.
File contains building history from Information for Guides of Historic Charleston; graduate student report (Katie Lawrance, 2005) on the history of the building/property, including chain-of-title research, deeds, plats, photos, and maps; photocopy of photos, site plans, and elevations, presumably submitted to the BAR (Prescon LLC, architects, 2005).
No photos on file. Image in this record from document in the Property File.Collection
