EBAY.041.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1901-02. Attorney W. Gibbes Whaley, who served for many years as master in equity, completed this stuccoed wood dwelling by 1902. The 2-story, hipped-roof building with mixed Beaux Arts and Neoclassical detailing, was sold within 2 years of its completion to William and Louisa Fait. William Fait had moved to Charleston only a few years earlier to manage the Charleston Canning Company but sold this house in 1906. The Huiet and Paul families owned 41 East Bay Street for most of the 20th century. The bowed porch with a ground-story masonry arcade and upper balustrade was apparently added after 1940.
