Marshall-Eveleigh. Matthews House. Built by Geo. Matthews, one of the younger sons of an early settler, Anthony Matthews. Geo. died in 1769 and his house was sold to Dr. Philip Skirving(?). Built a few years later than the Eveleigh House. House next south was built by Dr. Joseph Johnson, author of Johnson's Traditions of the Revolution. This family has from 1765 until this day contributed to the history of the state.Lexicon
