The result of years of research that began in London with salvage excavations in the vicinity of the Pickleherring delftware manufactory, whose owner, Christian Wilhelm, became a business associate of Virginia's governor Sir John Harvey and thus forged an historical and archaeological link between delftwares from the London kilns and those used and discarded in the Virginia colony.
