COMING.026.1Description
B&W photograph of the James Denton House (26 Coming Street), front elevation showing the southwest corner of the building. White picket fence in foreground.
Constructed ca. 1798; moved from 25 St. Philip Street in 1977. James Denton, tavern keeper, wharf master, and carpenter, built this small 2½ story, open-gabled, single house on the glebe lands at 25 St. Philip Street. Significant Victorian changes to the building include the Italianate piazza screen and two-over-two windows. After the house was moved to Coming Street in 1977, the middle dormer was rebuilt to create a third-story bathroom. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)Collection
