Photograph (magic lantern slide) showing a crowd gathered at a wharf. The slide is captioned "View at Wharf Charleston Prior to Departure of Grand Duchess." The steamship La Grande Duchesse ran between New York and Charleston. At the lower left is a wagon that says "Thomas Duggan, Green Grocer, Ship Stores," which was located at 111 East Bay Street. Several buildings in the vicinity of the wharf are in the background, including Vanderhorst Row (78 East Bay) at right and the old Carolina Yacht Club in the center.
