COMING.151.1Description
B&W photograph of the Henry Oetjen House (151 Coming Street), front (east) elevation, showing the piazzas on the southeast corner of the building.
Two copies of photo in sleeve, slightly different orientations.
The Hery Oetjen House was constructed c. 1851-1852, rehabilitated 1985. A German merchant built this 2½ story brick single house on a lot acquired at public auction in December 1850. Stylistically, the building relates to the mid-19th century single houses found in Ansonborough with its pilastered gable framing a tripartite window, brick belt coursing and two-story side piazza. Altered as apartments some years ago, the Oetjen House became the subject of a tax act rehabilitation by investors in the mid 1980s. The ground story doorway leading to a lower story unit is one of several 20th century alterations. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)Collection
