Freedman's cottage constructed ca. 1886 by H.L. Graddick, an African American mariner, and/or his son, H.T. Graddick, captain of the schooner Robert E. Lee, who also built 10 Council Street. The large L-shaped cottage retains its original wrap-around chimneys. 14 Council Street was once owned by John Ahrens who built the freedman's cottage at 13 Council Street.
