Constructed ca. 1810; rehabilitated mid-1980s. Built on a lot owned by the estate of Theodore Gaillard Sr., this 3½ story building exemplifies Federal style brick construction in Charleston with many later repairs and alterations. Flemish bond walls and a sawtooth brick cornice are examples of this masonry work. The building passed to wholesale grocer O.F. Wieters in 1887.
File contains graduate student report (2005) on the history of the building/property that includes deeds, wills, plats, chain-of-title, and maps; captioned photos from newspaper; brief architectural description (unattributed, 1995); 1984 letter from Poston to Altman and enclosed 1885 Sanborn Map; Rosen and Associates (engineers) site assessment (1999) and disclosure of physical condition (2007) for 182-184 East Bay Street.Collection
