EBAY.215.1Scope and Content
Ownership of the original Grand Modell Lot 44 changed hands several times and the lot size has been altered. A conveyance dated March 18, 1845 describes the parcel as a lot of land with a bakery, dwelling house, and outbuilding. An 1881 Ward Book describes a one-story brick structure with a tin roof, soon after described as a saloon. By 1888, 215 East Bay is home to a two-story brick building, and by 1944, a new warehouse was extended across the back of the lot. In the 1980s, the building was enlarged to five stories.
File contains newspaper articles related to the design of the building; graduate student report (Amanda Brown, 2014) on the history of the building, which includes historical and chain-of-title research, maps, photos, and other supporting documentation..
