ELIZABETH.51-53.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1845-50. John P. Daly purchased these properties as vacant lots from Frances Moore in 1845. Shortly thereafter he built 3 houses, 2 nearly identical stuccoed brick Charleston single houses and the northernmost dwelling, a smaller frame single house. The buildings at 51-53 Elizabeth Street stand out as particularly fine examples of masonry single houses with rusticated ground stories, pilasters, dogtooth cornices in the gable ends, central tripartite windows, and double-tiered Tuscan columns in a piazza; only 53 Elizabeth Street retains its original door screen.
