Scope and Content

Constructed ca. 1815. This 2-story brick house was built on old foundations. Tradition says that Poinsett's Tavern was built on this site ca. 1734 by Elisha Poinsett, an ancestor of Joel R. Poinsett, the diplomat who brought the poinsettia plant to America from Mexico. File contains FOH house history (2001); photocopy of photo from Preservation Progress (1960); house history from Information for Guides of Historic Charleston. No photos on file.
