GEORGE.011.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1813; altered ca. 1850; renovated 1971. Daniel Legare bequeathed this parcel out of the 79 Anson Street property to his granddaughter Mary Scott, by a codicil in his will, which specified that she receive the lot "where the Taby [tabby]) house now stands" when she reached 21 years of age (probably between 1793-1795). This 2½ story single house built in the early-19th century has some surviving Federal detailing but was changed extensively by a subsequent owner in the 1850s. The early scored stucco, obscured on the front by later renovations, is still visible on the east wall of the building. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
Previously numbered 7 George Street; changed to 11 George in 1976.
