GEORGE.066.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1850s; Edward B. White, architect. 66 George Street is part of the original campus of the College of Charleston. This small Classical-Revival building was designed by Edward Brickell White, also responsible for the porticoes and wings of Harrison Randolph Hall. The location of the building adds a sense of definition and axis to the campus. The college never hired a porter but the building served as the residence for a succession of college janitors. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
File contains brief narrative history (almost verbatim to above, unattributed, undated); narrative history from Information for Guides of Historic Charleston; reduced-size copy of architectural drawings (GEORGE.066.2); photocopy of photo (unattributed, undated).Collection
