5 Gibbes Street (Manigault-Sinkler House)Entry/Object ID
GIBBES.005.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1872; altered ca. 1910-20. A member of the Manigault family, then owners of 6 Gibbes Street, completed this 2½ story, side-hall plan dwelling, with a mix of Greek Revival and Italianate details. A bracketed overhang above the entry door and 1-story bay window ornament the closed gabled front facade. The west piazzas were removed in the early 20th century when the Huger-Sinkler family, later owners, bought their first automobile and needed access to the rear of the lot.
Three files contain documentation of the easement on the property including related correspondence and Confirmation of Understanding; Part I certification (National Register); annual inspection reports, requests for alterations, and correspondence related to the management of the property; FOHG house history (1995).
