Constructed ca. 1846; rehabilitated 1972-73. Walter Knox, a carpenter, bought this lot following the dismemberment of the college property in 1817. After his death, Katherine Knox built this dwelling with Greek Revival and Tuscan or Italianate style detailing. Mrs. Knox lived here at the time of the war. The house is 3 stories tall with a surmounting hipped roof and cupola. Several tiers of cast-iron front piazzas as well as triple-tiered Tuscan piazzas ornament the house. Owned by Albert Osceola Jones, an African American who served as a South Carolina representative between 1870 and 1881, the house was sold to Charlestonian Willie James Lesesne in the early-20th century. The college restored the house in 1972-73 and it serves as a women's dormitory. (Buildings of Charleston.)
