The buildings at 28-36 Hasell Street were constructed variously from 1840-44 and constitute an unbroken line of brick Charleston single houses constructed after the fire of 1838. By 1861 all were owned by John McNellage and occupied by single-family tenants. The house at 34 Hasell Street has parapeted gables, dormers, brick detailing with dogtooth cornices and belt courses and Greek Revival style piazza door screens, identical to 32 and 34 Hasell Street.
Three files contain documentation of the easement on the property including related correspondence and Confirmation of Understanding; Part I certification (National Register); easement appraisal report and IRS form 8283; annual inspection report; correspondence relating to management of the property; data sheet for CharlestonWISE Impact Project (Sustainability Institute) that includes construction date, square footage, number of stories, building orientation, system materials/types, Sanborn Map research notes, and additions/alterations notes (Mariah Schwartz, 2011).
