Constructed ca. 1843; rehabilitated mid-1980s. John McNellage acquired a vacant lot at this address from Robert Wilson at the beginning of 1843. Wilson and his family owned numerous city properties, particularly in Ansonborough. The three-story dwelling stands on a high brick foundations with two bays on each floor and a surmounting brick parapet, ornamented by cast-iron anthemion grills. On the south facade the parapet steps down toward the south and a double-tiered piazza shades this elevation. The late-Italianate style arched door hood dates from a postbellum renovation.
