Contains: "Lesson Learned from the Charleston Earthquake: How the Southern City was Rebuilt Finer than Ever within Four Years." The Virtual Museum of the City of San Francisco published the text of this article from the May 6, 1906 edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Written by Paul Pinckney, a boy during the earthquake, to help the people of San Francisco, which had just suffered a great and destructive fire. Pinckney wrote the article about Charleston as an example of how a city could pull through so much devastation. Collection of articles by Margaret W. Garrett entitled "Earthquake of 1886." From a special 100th anniversary edition of The News and Courier / The Evening Post (now The Post and Courier). Includes numerous pictures: "Aug. 31, 1886 9:51 p.m." -- "Tremor's power widely evident" -- "Local faults date to ancient times" -- "Quake attributed to variety of causes"
