Scope and Content

Constructed ca. 1840. One of 3 Charleston single houses that seem appropriately scaled in ascending order from the corner of Anson toward the west. Each shows characteristics of having been built immediately after the fire of 1838. 53 Hasell Street is a 3-story masonry single house with a full-height piazza along its west elevation, and a 2-story rear kitchen house. It was built on a lot that had been purchased in 1827 by Robert Wilson in trust for his wife Charity, a daughter of Daniel Lathan. Three files contain documentation of the easement on the property including related correspondence and Confirmation of Understanding; Part I certification (National Register); copy of ARP photograph.; Rosen and Associates inspection reort (2003); annual inspection reports; requests for alterations; correspondence related to the management of the property; correspondence and other documentation related to the sale of the property. See Easement Documentation Photo Files for easement donation photographs (Exh. B to Deed of Conservation Easement). No inspection photographs on file (see Easement Manager).
