HASELL.087.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1856; remodeled 1873. This two-story brick building was built by Henry F. Strohecker, a partner with Henry Eubank in the firm Strohecker & Eubank, hardware merchants around the corner on Meeting Street. It is assumed he leased this building to tenants until after the Civil War when he located his hardware business here. He died in 1869 and his heirs leased the property to Hiram Harris, a bookseller, bookbinder, printer and stationer. An 1873 lease specified that Harris, in return for a low rent, would make improvements including the installation of the present "show window" storefront, thus it was remodeled in 1873.
