John Robinson Tenement: 6 Judith Street / 8 Judith StreetEntry/Object ID
JUDITH.006.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1817-20. John Robinson, the builder of the Aiken-Rhett House, erected the nearly identical weatherboarded Charleston single houses at 6 Judith Street and 8 Judith Street on raised brick basements in the second decade of the 19th century. Exemplifying the contemporary Neoclassical style, both houses retain their nine-over-nine windows, paired east chimneys, pilasters, and architraves on the piazza screens. Robinson constructed these houses with one-story piazzas, but a later owner constructed a second story piazza at 6 Judith Street some years later. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
