Hand drawn map showing proposed route from approximately Rumney (Romney) Street to Chicora Park. According to Nic Butler, historian and Manager of The Charleston Archive [aka Special Collections] at the Charleston County Public Library: "I've recently been reading through the old Year Books cover-to-cover, so I knew right away that this project dates from the mid-1890s. Having revisited the books, I feel comfortable in saying that your map probably dates from 1897. That year the city purchased the land for 'Section 1' of the proposed avenue from Mrs. Cecilia Lawton and Mr. Clausen, and paid for a 'Topographical map' of the area. For more information, see the following pages in the Year Books: 1894: pp 23-24; 1895: pp 19-20; 1896: pp 21-22; 1897: pp 183-84; 1898: pp 157-58."
