KING.019.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1735-39; altered 1840-50. Tradition holds that this Charleston single house preceded the fire of 1740. Serving as the residence of merchant and colonial leader Thomas Lamboll and his botanist wife, Elizabeth, the original property stretched south to White Point Gardens. After changes were made reflecting the Greek Revival period, with fluted Doric-columned piazzas and contemporary window surrounds, the house was shifted by the contractor Patrick O'Donnell in 1849 to make way for the widening of Lamboll Street. O'Donnell lived here while supervising the construction of his house to the north. (Buildings of Charleston.)
