Constructed ca. 1906. A wealthy former mayor of Charleston built this house with its side-hall plan and Italianate detailing as an investment property. It took the place of a small brick store building of the antebellum period. The Buist family built the more substantial house next door at 37 King Street in the Colonial Revival style.
