Scope and Content

Constructed ca. 1847. A typical 2-story stucco Charleston single house with side piazzas and a southern exposure, built on property oirginally incorporated into the parcel acquired by Miles Brewton I in 1732. Richard Yeadon, an antebellum newspaper editor and philanthropist, probably built this house in 1847 incoroporating a portion of a 1730s dwelling. It lost its third story as a result of the earthquake of 1886. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.) File contains FOHG house histories (undated); title and historical research (L. Note

Notes: Images sent to HCF by Erin Lanier, an architect working on the house. They are from photographs that were found hanging inside the house. Image 1 is identified as having been taken sometime before the 1886 Earthquake. Image 2 reflects signficant changes made later on. To date, documentation of the demolition of the third story has not been found.
