KING.046.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1851. Walter Webb, a botanist, florist, and garden designer, purchased this lot "with a wooden building thereon" in 1851 and shortly thereafter began the construction of 46 King Street as his shop and residence. Unlike the earlier building at 44 King Street, which stood on its site by 1794, Webb built his dwelling with the long facade parallel to the street, a less typical site arrangement in Charleston
File contains FOHG house histories (undated, 1968, 1992, 1997, 2004); SC Historical Society house tour history (1968); newspaper article (DYKYC, ca. 1930s).Collection
