Constructed ca. 1844; renovated 1992-93. The son of the first Mordecai Cohen, himself an Ashley River planter, built this 2½ story masonry single house on a Grand Modell lot formerly occupied by a small wooden house. Marx Cohen, Jr., a distinguished Confederate officer, was killed by a Union artillery shell during the battle of Bentonville, North Carolina.
File contains FOHG house history (1995); deed research by Ruth Williams Cupp (undated) that includes copies of Grand Modell map, elevation of 1796, Will of Jacob Jacobs (owner of the property in 1796), and plat dated 1840.Collection
