KING.165.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1875. William Byrne, Vern, a grocer operating nearby on King Street, constructed this building and occupied it as a residence. Though the early storefront was removed many years ago, the first-floor cornice with end cast-iron brackets survives, as do the pedimented window heads of the second floor and simple lintels on the third. The building retains its six-over-six windows on the upper stories of the side elevation as well as its molded cornice.
File contains newspaper article (1969 DYKYC); house history from Information for Guides of Historic Charleston. See Media link for 2005 King Street Survey form.
