Scope and Content

Newspaper articles mostly about Lowcountry plantations and sites, including many "Do You Know Your Lowcountry" and some "Do You Know Your Peedee" articles, most with photographs. Presumably, this scrapbook was created and maintained by the donor or a family member of the donor. Front cover is decoratively embossed and has a gold-colored design; the words "scrap book" are also embossed on the cover. The creator did not retain or otherwise document the dates of the newspaper articles; however some of the loose articles are dated 1930 and 1931, other dates may be able to be determined by the home ownership for some of the articles, in particular the "Do You Know..." articles. Photocopies have been made of articles loose in scrapbook, and placed in the respective property files: tour brochure for 64 South Battery, 32 South Battery, 101 East Bay Street, 192 Ashley Avenue; Old Exchange Building; St. Paul's Episcopal Church; Heyward-Washington House; Dock Street Theater (Planter's Hotel); Palmetto Bluff / Vanderbilt Home (Beaufort); Tomotley, Brewton Plantation, Bindon, Castle Hill (Beaufort); All Saints' Parish (Waccamaw); Ponemah Plantation; and Harrietta Plantation.

Scrapbook pages are brittle and tear/break easily. Some pages have become torn out of the lace holding the volume together. Newspaper articles that extend beyond the size of the page are fragile and break/tear easily.
