My Dear Mrs Rhett
After Parting from you I arrived in New York with safety, without the least trouble. I found my sister and her family all well and the oldest Daughter is married and they were all glad to see me especially my sister that is blind she says she cannot think of parting with me again so I have made up my mind to stay here for the Winter But I must say I dislike New York more than [missing] I did the Ladies here Dress a good [missing]. They were [sic] the hair in 2 or 3 Rools [sic] in front and the back of the hair in a Waterfall of Curls or in a net. I have not been to see Mrs. Lowndes as you told me that she would not be in the City before the middle of this month then I will go and see her and give her my address. For the Present I am staying with my sister 219 East 51st and will stay there until I can suit myself. Please give the Enclosed $6.00 to Ann and tell her I did not get her Long Cloth because dry goods are much Dearer here than in Charleston and they are Shipping goods all the time to go South will you Please to send me my trunk when you get the Address. I shall miss you all verry [sic] much this Winter. Remember me to Mr. and Mrs. Aiken and Mr. Rhett.
