KING.278.1Scope and Content
Located on the east side of King Street, 2 doors north of Wentworth Street, this is a 2-story, rectangular brick building covered in beige stucco. Constructed ca. 1829 in the Greek Revival style. On the 1st floor, 2 Doric pilasters frame a restored storefront with awning, recently altered in 2004 and 2008. On the 2nd floor are 3 regularly spaced, 6-over-6 double-hung sash windows. Directly above the 2nd floor windows are three regularly spaced niches filled with decorative wrought iron grilles displaying honeysuckle palmetto motifs. The parapet is decorated with a simple cornice and hides the actual roof from view.
File contains graduate student report on the history of the building, which includes historical and chain-of-title research, maps, photos, and other supporting documentation (Josslyn Stiner, 2008); photocopies of photographs and front elevation submitted in support of 11/10/2004 BAR application.
