Scope and Content

Constructed ca. 1790; alterations 1886, ca. 1940, 1969, 1979. Three-and-a-half story stuccoed masonry building with a late 19th century facade and a 1-story rear wing reworked and enlarged during the mid-20th century. Facade rebuilt after the 1886 earthquake. Three files contain documentation of the easement on the property including related correspondence and Confirmation of Understanding; Part I certification (National Register); easement appraisal report; IRS form 8283; narrative history; historical/chain-of-title research information; news article; occupancy history from Old Codgers' Charleston Address Book; copy of 1891 plat. The files will eventually contain annual inspection reports, requests for alterations, and correspondence related to the management of the property.
