Scope and Content

Three-story commercial building at the corner of King Street and Liberty Street, with Art Moderne storefront. Has decorative terrazzo tile floor adorning the front entry and wrapping the corner. Top two stories of the decorative fronts are covered in white marble tiles. The building belonged to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows from ca. 1910 through ca. 1950, which used the upper floors for their fraternal meetings and fellowship activities, and rented out the first story to Charleston Crockery Co. (later named China Hall). File contains photocopy of advertisement (illustration of China Hall) from an 1887 business directory; graduate student report (Justin Schwebler, 2013) on the history of the building, which includes historical and chain-of-title research, maps, photos, and other supporting documentation; excerpt from The Old Codgers Charleston Address Book.
