Scope and Content

Late 18th century building with fine interior woodwork. Initially moved from 116 Anson Street to then 42 Laurens while the lots at 305-309 East Bay Street were cleared, then to its current location. HCF restored the exterior in the early 1970s. (Site was originally known as 309 East Bay Street.) Three files contain documentation of the covenant on the property; correspondence and other documentation related to the covenant, including right-of-first-refusal; annual inspection reports; requests for alterations; correspondence and other documentation related to the management of the property; brief house history (Samuel G. Stoney, 1966); copy of HCF covenant information card; newspaper article about the demolition of 309 East Bay; newspaper article about the relocation of 116 Anson Street; correspondence and other documentation of HCF's purchase, sale, and rehabilitation of the property and the relocation of 116 Anson Street and demolition of structures on the southwest corner of East Bay and Laurens.
