50 Laurens Street (Adams-Ingraham House)Entry/Object ID
LAURENS.050.1Scope and Content
Constructed 1807-08; restored after fire damage, 1974. This dwelling was also built after the purchase of a lot from the Gadsden estate, in this case by John Strong Adams, a merchant of Irish extraction. More grandly conceived than the Chancognie residence, the house retains its original fanlighted doorway and marble steps, as well as a notable brick kitchen/carriage house. The third story on the house, as well as the iron fence, was added in the antebellum period, probably by the Ingraham family who owned the property from 1828 until the mid-19th century. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
File contains FOHG house history (1994); three newspaper articles (including 1979 DYKYC); photocopy of ARP photo.Collection
