Map of Charleston and its vicinity showing the original settlement of 1670 at Albermarle Point, The Oyster Point settlement of 1672, and subsequent extension of 1783 and 1849. Prepared to accompany Mayor Courtenay's centennial address, August 15, 1883.
Includes details concerning the original owners of acreages on Albemarle Point (including Cap. Joseph West, the first governor of the state), the cultivation of indigo, the phosphate works, various lines of fortification for the city, and a wide variety of homes and businesses throughout the area.
