Constructed ca. 1853. An unusual paired bracket cornice supporting a deep fascia, and an Italianate style parapet with a central panel flanked by pedestaled urns cap this house built by Optimus E. Hughes around 1853. Hughes took out a mortgage on his house in 1853 and sold it to John Eddings. The southernmost antebellum house on the street, the dwelling lost a third story and gabled roof years after its construction.
