This large stuccoed brick house in the Italianate style was built by William C. Courtney between 1850-1860. It occupies the two middle parts of Town Lot No. 117 of the Grand Modell, which was enlarged at the back by Josiah Smith of 7 Meeting Street who filled in marshlands between King and Meeting Streets.
